  • Notes: first collected edition. "... in the person of Thomas Coryate we have the first real English sight-seer to visit Hindustan... who came all the way to Southern Asia for no other purpose than to see what it was like. Coryate already enjoyed great fame as a wanderer, for he had made a much publicized walking trip across Europe to Venice, which resulted in his celebrated book, the Crudities (1611)"--Penrose, page 227.
