Richmond, Virginia, 1803 E1,500/2,500 VERY EARLY DEED OF EMANCIPATION Benjamin Colver of Richmond frees a young girl, "whom I purchased from Catherine Jacobs of the aforesaid City of Richmond, fourteen years from the date hereof which will be on the twelfth day of October the year one thousand eight hundred and sixteen I do by these present declare the aforesaid negro girl Lucy to be free from me, my heirs, executors, and Administrators to all intents and purposes whatsoever as if she had never been born in the state and condition of slavery."
