(DIRIGIBLES)
A group of 11 photographs depicting dirigibles in air or parked in giant hangers, primarily American vessels.
Includes a crowded scene around the Graf Zeppelin, a number of images of the American dirigible the Los Angeles (including a flight over New York City), the dirigible the Shenandoah in flight and docked, a crash site, and others. Silver press prints, the images measuring approximately 7¼x9¼ inches (18.4x23.5 cm.), and the reverse, the sheets slightly larger, all but two with caption labels with the Underwood & Underwood credit, each with an Underwood stamp, and most with numeric notations in pencil on verso. 1923-26

  • Condition: This group of press photographs documenting flights of dirigibles as well as the massive vessels docked is in good condition.

The surfaces of the prints evidence the scattered imperfections associated with press prints, including handling creases, impressions, and tiny tears. Most of the imperfections are primarily visible in strong, raking light and are not distracting. The tears, when present, are primarily confined to the thin margins. The imperfections do not detract from the images themselves.

Some of the tones of the prints ares lightly sepia, but all retain detail and contrast. The prints are very slightly curled, also typical to early press prints.
