DMITRI MOOR [YOU / HOW HAVE YOU HELPED THE FRONT?] 1941

Dmitri Moor was a popular and prolific political cartoonist and poster artist. With the Germans advancing on Leningrad, Moor retooled one of his more famous images into a war poster. In 1920 he had used the same construction (a man, in this earlier case a farmer, dressed in red, his finger pointing, in front of factories with smoking chimneys, calling on Russians to join the new Soviet State). Now, holding a rifle instead of a shovel, the Soviet Soldier implores workers to put their efforts firmly behind the war effort. Militant Poster 21, Gallo p. 213 (var).
