DUPERTUIS JOBIN SIDNEY BECHET. 1948.
39x25 1/2 inches.
Condition B+: vertical and horizontal folds. Paper.
A mid-century modernist design for the great clarinetist, Sidney Bechet, appearing live in concert in Switzerland. Born in New Orleans, Bechet was a prodigy on the clarinet but also took up the soprano saxophone. This image depicts him in an improvisational way that was in keeping with the music he played. But it also emphasizes that he was one of the great soloists of early jazz, illustrating him partially in a spotlight and swinging with the rhythm of his own music.
