  • Condition: This group of Eadweard Muybridge plates from Animal Locomotion is in overall very good to excellent condition. The image areas are bright, clean, and neat, with rich, clear tones, and sheets overall minimally handled, with bright, neat margins. Most compellingly, one of these plates (519) shows Muybridge himself.

Each of the plates (all but 363) evidence one soft and nearly indiscernible half-moon handling mark in the margin, not impacting the image area. Similarly one plate, 519, evidences one stray impression in the margin. There are a couple stray soiling marks in the margins, and a couple evidence just very minor age-darkening at the extreme edges of the sheet. But, this is minor, and overall the presentation of these plates is exceptional.

Each of the two-toned sheets with Muybridge's letterpress credit, series title, plate number, copyright, and date on recto.

    The images are:
    1. Descending a stepladder and turning around with a rock in hands, pl. 151
    2. Baseball, pl. 288
    3. Running somersault, pl. 363
    4. A: Throwing a disk. B: Ascending a step. C: Walking, pl. 519
