FINE OUTSIDER WORK BY BILL TRAYLOR (ART.) TRAYLOR, BILL.
Untitled graphite and crayon drawing of 2 men, a dog, and an owl, on heavy cardboard, 11x18 inches; corners uneven but as intended; Signed beneath the image. Np, nd Traylor (1854-1947) was born a slave on a plantation in Benton, AL. His master was George Traylor. For most of his life Traylor worked as a field hand and later in a shoe factory. At the age of 84 he began to make pencil drawings in an alley adjoining a funeral home in Montgomery, AL. There he was discovered by Charles Shannon. Just prior to World War II a one man show was put together by Shannon and exhibited at the Montgomery Museum.
