- Notes: The incident involving Upton Sinclair is detailed in the copy of Jackson's letter to Freud which accompanies this lot. At a Socialist symposium, Floyd Dell spoke concerning the effects of the industrial revolution on middle class attitudes toward sex. Sinclair, who spoke after Dell, starting by saying that he agreed with everything that Freud had just said -- a true Freudian slip.
