Furr, Arthur. Democracy's Negroes: A Book of Facts concerning the Activities of Negroes in World War II.

Plates. 8vo, publisher's cloth; dust jacket, somewhat chipped at edges. Boston: House of Edinboro, (1947)

  • Notes: first edition. One of the earliest books on the participation of Negroes in World War II. While many articles had been written on the subject including several by Laurence Reddick (then head of New York's Schomburg Center), no single book on Negroes in the various branches of the contemporary armed services existed. Furr was himself a veteran of the First World War.
