Gabriele D'Annunzio

Together 13 pages. 4to, most on "Italian Regency of Carnaro" stationery; generally good condition. A few with the original envelope.

Vp, circa 1921.

  • Notes: In September of 1919, the largely Italian-speaking port city of Fiume [Rijeka] was occupied by a force of Italian soldiers (without orders from the Italian government) under the command of D'Annunzio, who claimed the city as an Italian territory. In September of 1920, D'Annunzio declared the city to be under the government of the "Italian Regency of Carnaro," remaining there until December, when the Italian army forced his Legionnaires to surrender.

Giuseppe Bonaspetti (1864-1928) was a playwright and journalist who worked as an editor of the Milan newspaper  La Perseveranza, composed successful theatrical works including  Sons of Cain (1911), and served for a time as secretary to Gabriele D'Annunzio.
