  • Notes: Includes: Two Typed Letters Signed from Amy Jacques Garvey, regarding the movement and Amy Ashwood Garvey * Typed Letter Signed from Benjamin W. Jones, Philadelphia leader of the local UNIA (1944) * August 1937 issue of "Black Man," which includes numerous articles by Garvey * material on the Ethiopian Flying School * and more.
Colonel Walters was born in Ethiopia (died 1977). He was a pilot as well as the general manager and teacher of the Ethiopian Flying School. He was also a local representative of the UNIA and apparently of some importance in the movement. Letters from Amy Jacques Garvey have excellent content, and reveal the deep hatred she had for Amy Ashwood Garvey. Benjamin Jones of Philadelphia was instrumental in the drive to get clemency for Garvey while he was in prison. His letters to Franklin Delano Roosevelt and other government figures are well documented by Garvey's biographer, Robert Hill.
