Hand-colored engraved plate of South African chief Tchatshu, extracted from

Pritchard's Natural History of Man, on large 8vo sheet. New York, 1855 Tchatshu, thought by missionaries to be a perfect example of conversion, was later among the leaders of the disastrous attack by over 8000 Xhosa on the British at Fort Peddie in 1837.
