  • Condition: Mieth's photograph Boys on the Road (homeless boys), 1936; printed 1940s is overall in very good condition. The print is rich and dimensional, with a compelling mid-tonal value and bright highlights.

Under close examination in strong raking light, the surface evidences a few superficial inconsistencies, including two soft half-moon creases, one in the upper middle quadrant (above the hat) and one in the middle-left quadrant in the background. There is also a discreet spec of retouching in the upper hat.

The print has no margins and the extreme edges evidence some tiny chips, and more specifically a few chips with losses at the tip of the two lower corners, but even here it is quite unobtrusive and minor. They are currently obscured by the overmat.

The verso is clean, with Mieth's signature and title in ink, a second title and the negative date in ink in an unknown hand, and her credit stamp, on verso. The print is hinged to the mat on its upper edge with two pieces of archival tape.
