IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (1883-1976) Rubber Plant. 1929; printed early 1970s.

IMOGEN CUNNINGHAM (1883-1976)
Rubber Plant. 1929; printed early 1970s.
Silver print, the image measuring 12 5/8x9½ inches (32.1x24.1 cm.), the mount 20x15 inches (50.8x38.1 cm.), with Cunningham's signature and negative date in pencil on mount recto, and her Green Street label with her facsimile signature and typed title and negative date on mount verso.

  • Condition: This stark and elegant print by Imogen Cunningham is in nearly excellent condition, with contrasty and luminous tones.

The surface of the print is clean, bright, and neat, and without apparent flaw, except for a soft linear diagonal impression in the lower right quadrant (in the background). This most certainly occurred before or during the mounting. This is visible only when viewing the work from a certain angle in strong raking light, but not under normal viewing conditions. There is also an exceedingly tiny chip on the extreme left edge (the print has no margins). Otherwise, the print is clean and neat, as well as its edges.

The mount is also clean and neat. There is a very faint narrow band of warming around the image, corresponding to the window of the overmat. This is minor, and does not impact the print itself. The edges and corners of the mount are crisp, sharp and clean, with Cunningham's signature and negative date in pencil on mount recto

The mount verso is bright and clean with Cunningham's Green Street label with her facsimile signature and typed title and negative date.
