In Memoriam. Frederick Douglass. Photogravure frontispiece. Thick large 4to, original gray cloth, title in gilt on front cover and spine covers very lightly soiled; largely unopened; top edges gilt, others untrimmed. We find no other version of this work; the printing layout indicates it is a large paper copy, probably one of a small quantity. Philadelphia: John C. Yorston & Co., 1897 E400/600 FIRST EDITION of this tribute to the great orator and abolitionist. The obsequies at Washington, D. C. and at Rochester, New York, as well as "Tender Words from Loving Hearts" and "Poems and Sonnets," represent a virtual "Who's Who" in the life and world of Frederick Douglass. The prayer at Washington was read by Alexander Crummell, and the sermon delivered by Francis J. Grimke. Among the "Tender Words" are those of Booker T. Washington, William Lloyd Garrison, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, and scores of others. Among many poems is Paul Laurence Dunbar's "Frederick Douglass." Schomburg Collection, Sc. B-Douglass; Blockson Collection 3098.
