Condition B+: horizontal folds: lightfoxing and creasing in margins and minor discolorations in image. Paper. A member of the UAM Union des Artistes Modernes, alongside such important artists as Cassandre, Carlu, Loupot, and Colin, Nathan was encouraged by Carlu, who was tenyears his senior, to do the posters for l'Habitation, which was a section of the huge Salon des Arts Menagers. In 1934 his poster for this same exhibition featured a very geometrical image with a trowel and a graphically rendered modern building. The typography for this earlier poster was bold; all the information that was not immediatelynecessary was pushed to the side of the poster a lesson taken from Cassandre's Nord Express poster. For this poster the following year Nathan used the same idea, except this time he used photomontage, pasting a photograph of the building directly into the image and interweaving the typography into the design.
