(JAMAICA.) Legal Document Signed by Sir Henry Moore. Certified copy, proceedings in Court of Chancery, island of Jamaica, between Richard Farrell of the Parish of St. George, complainant, and Zachary Bayly of Kingston, for recovery of an alleged debt together with interest. 15 pages, large legal folio; folded, some chips and cracks at folds, not affecting text; edges trifle worn and chipped. With large beeswax seal of Jamaica (depicts a slave kneeling before his master), silk ribbon attached. Docketed: "Received from Mr. William Reynard at the Jamaica Coffee House ." Kingston,1758 E1,500/2,500 Includes inventories of both estates with name, description, and appraisal of each slave, comprising 2 long lists of slaves and their duties; many retain their African names: Quamino, Quaco, Cujo, Mingo, Quasheba, Whanica, etc. Sir Henry (1713-69) was Governor of Jamaica 1756-62, where he put down a slave rebellion and gained the Crown's appreciation. He was promoted to New York Colonial Governor in 1764.
