JAMES A. M. WHISTLER The Priest's House, Rouen.

JAMES A. M. WHISTLER
The Priest's House, Rouen.

Lithograph on antique, cream laid paper, 1894-95. 241x160 mm; 9 1/2x6 3/8 inches, full margins. Second state (of 2). Ex-collection Rosalind Birnie Philip, the artist's sister-in-law (Lugt 405, verso). A very good impression.

This lithograph probably dates from a short trip Whistler made to Rouen by rail during August 1894. The style of the drawing and the richness of the printing recall his lithographs from Brittany during the summer of 1893, like Vitré: The Canal, lot 136. Way 74; Levy 112; Spink 105.
