JOSEPH C. LEYENDECKER THE CHAP BOOK. 1897.
22x15 3/4 inches.
Condition A-: minor creases and restoration in margins.
By October 1897 the brief, but influential run of the Chap Book had come to an end. Faced with financial difficulties and artistic differences, the firm ceased publishing their magazine and reorganized under the name Herbert S. Stone and Co. In the December 1896 issue, the Chap Book advertised 14 previous Chap Book posters for sale. In its 42-month existence, 16 posters were designed to advertise the magazine, this the last of the series. Leyendecker joined an impressive rank of talent who had been recruited to design the posters, including Will Bradley, Frank Hazenplug, Elisha Bird and even Toulouse-Lautrec. Leyendecker p. 68, DFP I 284, Margolin p. 113.
