KARL OSCAR BLASE (1925- ) RAPID-PHOTO. 1954.

32x23 1/4 inches.
Condition B+: minor restoration in left margin; tape stains right and left bottom corners.
After studies in Wüppertal, Blase worked briefly as a team with Felix Müller before becoming the designer for the American Houses in Germany between 1952 and 1958, a position which included poster and catalogue design as well as exhibition architecture. After a stint working for the German Post office, he eventually settled in Kassel as a teacher, working regularly for the Dokumenta and other Hessische institutions as well as accepting international commissions. During the American House period, Blase quite often used photography in very inventive ways - here, photography has inspired in him a well balanced, although certainly not figurative evocation of the subject. His typography is superb.
