  • Condition: Struss's vintage photograph of a female nude is overall in very good condition. The print is rich and contrasty and displays exquisite details.

Upon close inspection, the surface of the print evidences some faint and scattered imperfections, but these are largely not immediately apparent nor distracting. There are two tiny specs of residue in the upper right quadrant, but this is minimal and obscured by the graphic qualities of the print.

Otherwise, the other imperfections are primarily confined to the black areas of the print around the image area. These include a faint patina of silvering in the dark areas of the corners as well as a small fingerprint in the upper left edge of the image. They are not immediately apparent, but noticeable under close examination and strong raking light.

The print is tipped to the original parchment paper mount and its verso is very clean. The mount recto displays minor aging, and more specifically a narrow band of faint warming along its extreme right edge, with the plate number written twice in pencil. Its verso is clean.

This figural study belongs to The Female Figure, a portfolio of nude studies that Struss published for artists to use. He employed three painters to consult on the poses, which were executed by models and dancers.
