Three Typescripts, unsigned, each with approximately 20 words of notes or corrections in holograph, each a reading copy of a speech delivered during his 1960 presidential campaign. The first, delivered on September 5 at the Michigan State Fair in Detroit. With a printed program for the 1959 Fair including a map on which has been drawn the route of the "Kennedy car" in an unknown hand. The second, delivered on September 7 at the Courthouse Square in Eugene, OR. The third, delivered on October 3 at the Southern Illinois University Stadium, in Carbondale, IL. The printed text of each is identical to the text of the campaign press release. Together 18 pages, each 4to, written mostly on rectos only; condition generally good. Np, [September-October 1960]

  • Notes: 7 September: holograph notes on verso of terminal page: ". . . Difficult time / in the life of / the country. . . ." On the day after the delivery of this speech, Kennedy opened his remarks at Red Bluff, CA, with the following: "I campaign for the office of the Presidency in a very difficult and dangerous time in the life of our country . . . ."
    3 October: holograph notes on verso of terminal page: "Southern Illinois / University / Prince Bernard [of Netherlands?] / . . . What are the problems / of our generation . . . ."
