L. DAMARE (? - 1927) OLYMPIA / LA REVUE MERVEILLEUSE.
49x35 inches. Louis Galice, Paris.
Condition B+: repaired tears and restoration in margins affecting text; vertical and horizontal folds.
In the early years of the 20th century Damare found regular work for the Parisian music halls, designing at least three posters for L'Olympia. The "romantic" notion of the sexy showgirl and the lurid aristocrat was routinely used to advertise the revues held at these venues. Damare's poster fits neatly into this genre, and while a cliché, it is certainly an appealing one.
