WITH--A real photo postcard depicting Riefenstahl, likely on the set of one of her mountain films, signed by the photographer in ink on recto. 1920-30s; printed later

Provenance: From the Estate of Richard T. Rosenthal, Philadelphia

  • Condition: This group of small photographs documenting athletes at the 1936 Berlin Olympics is in overall very good to excellent condition. Each of the prints are rich and detailed. In raking light they show an exceedingly faint patina of silvering at the edges, but this is minor.

Two of the photographs (the ice skaters and bobsledders) are on their original mounts with the L.R. Studio blind stamp on mount recto. The mounts are overall clean, with minimal evidence of aging. Both with copyright stamps on verso. Upon close inspection in strong raking light the prints show a couple exceedingly faint retouching specs, but this is not distracting, nor does it detract from the rich print quality.

The other two prints have the L.R. Studio blind stamp on print recto. They are each affixed at the top edge to later mounts. The surfaces are clean and bright, and without apparent flaw.

The postcard is also excellent, without apparent flaws. It features the photographer's signature in ink on recto.
