LOGUEN, JERMAIN WESLEY. Autograph Letter Signed, to his daughter, Amelia (wife of Frederick Douglass's son), commenting on his recent travels. 4 pages, 8vo. St. Louis, 06 March 1869

  • Notes: Loguen writes to his daughter concerning his trip from Chicago to St. Louis and complains about the fare. His impressions regarding St. Louis and Chicago are worth noting - "This city is much larger than I thought for I am told they have some 20 thousand colored people alone with many more white people - they are behind the times - away behind you at the Loguen House in Syracuse... I don't know what to say about the people in Chicago - they are a strange lot of people, one thing I know they are a fast people, and a bad people to [sic] I think."
