LOUIS STETTNER (1922-2016) Boston Station. Circa 1954-58.

LOUIS STETTNER (1922-2016)
Boston Station. Circa 1954-58.
Silver print, the image measuring 10 1/8x13 5/8 inches (25.7x34.6 cm.), the black mount 14x18 7/8 inches (35.6x47.9 cm.), with Stettner's signature, title, and date in pencil, and his signature in ink, on mount verso.

  • Condition: Stettner's vintage photograph Boston Station, circa 1954-58, is overall in good to very good condition. The print is rich and atmospheric, with a compelling tonal value and luminous highlights.

Under close examination in strong raking light, it is possible to notice a few superficial surface inconsistencies, including scattered linear rubs and scuffing, most noticeable in the column behind the little girl as well as scattered specs of period retouching, the most noticeable being the retouching area on the little girl's face. While visible when viewing the print in strong raking light, these inconsistencies are not at all immediately apparent under typical viewing conditions.

The print has no margins, and the extreme edges evidence a few minuscule tiny chips, but this is also minor and does not detract from the overall presentation. The corners are lightly rubbed with some loss of their tips, and most significantly on the lower right corner.

The print is neatly presented on a black mount with black tape all around the edges. The white mount verso evidences light soiling and rubbing, with Stettner's signature, title, and date in pencil, and his signature in blue ink, on mount verso.
