Brought to the attention of Western civilization in the 1840s by a missionary, Lake Waikaremoana sits in Te Uremera National Park on New Zealand's North Island. The Lake House hotel was originally constructed in 1900, and served tourists until 1972, when it was closed. In the 1930s, to better serve their tourist customers, the Lake House launched its own boat, the Ruapani, to tour the lake, which may be depicted here.
