MARION PALFI (1907-1978)
From "Georgia Study," Atlanta * "Signs of Discrimination," from "Suffer Little Children," Portland, Oregon. 1949 & 1946-49; printed 1970s.
Together, 2 silver prints, the images measuring 13¾x10 3/8 inches (35x26.3 cm.), and the reverse, the mounts 20x16 inches (50.8x40.6 cm.), each with Palfi's signature in pencil on mount recto, and her title/caption information and negative dates in ink on mount verso.

Provenance
The Estate of Evelyne Daitz

  • Condition: Palfi's pair of photographs from "Georgia Study," Atlanta and "Suffer Little Children," Portland, Oregon, 1949 & 1946-49; printed 1970s is overall in excellent condition. The prints are rich and lustrous, with densely packed detail and tonal variety.

Under close examination in strong raking light, print 1 (Georgia Study) doesn't evidence any inconsistencies. Print 2 (from Suffer Little Children) evidences a few scattered minuscule specs of professional retouching on its upper extreme edge, but it remains extremely discreet and hardly noticeable, even in raking light.

The prints have no margins, and their edges are clean and neat.

The mounts are also clean and neat, each with Palfi's signature in pencil on mount recto, and her title/caption information and negative dates in ink on mount verso.

The notations on verso of the second print indicate that this image was used for her book "Suffer Little Children", and for the exhibition "Children of America".
