  • Condition: Marion Post Wolcott's "Freight train on prairie" (circa 1941) is in good condition. Sublime in scope, the print evidences a range of bright and clear tones and striking contrast.

The vintage print shows evidence of handling, consistent with its use at the time. There is a diagonal crease at the top right corner; this also slightly impacts the mount. The lower right corner of the print also shows a hard crease (here not affecting the mount). In strong raking light it is possible to find scattered handling marks and creases across the image, including a short crease with a spec of loss at the far left center edge, a handling mark at either center side, and another crackquelure like crease at the lower right edge. Finally, the surface appears to show some very slight rubs, and a few minuscule chips at the extreme edges.

The mount is also lightly worn, most noticeably at the corners. The mount is neatly tipped from the rear to the undermat. With two Office of War Information/Art Dept stamps, and the notation FSA, and a number of additional numeric notations in pencil in an unknown hand, on mount verso.

Provenance: The Collection of Neil Robert Berzak
