  • Notes: A remarkable pictorial document of post-colonial Mexico, with an extensive collection of images of major historical figures, each identified, many of which were inscribed to the original owner, Edward Lee Plumb.

The compiler, who ran for Lt. Governor of New York and was a prominent abolitionist, served as a translator and interpreter in Mexico. Like other members of the political community, Plumb was opposed to French intervention and the formation of a monarchy. Nevertheless, the album includes 5 rare images of the Mexican Emperor, Maximilian, one of his wife, and numerous pictures relating to their murder, along with photographs of military officials who were also shot at Queretaro.
