(MUSIC.) The Dixie Quintette.

(MUSIC.) The Dixie Quintette. Promotional flyer, Folio leaf 16 x 11, folded to form four pages with a double page photograph of the group on the inside. Pittsburgh, circa 1900-1910

  • Notes: A scarce memento of an unusual musical group. The Dixie Quintette not only played and sang, but performed short comedic as well as dramatic pieces and accompanied members of the group in recitations from the works of Paul Lawrence Dunbar: "Mr. Goodbar's tenor solos, Mr. Williams characteristic songs with banjo accompaniment, Mr. Johnson's famous interpretations of Paul Lawrence Dunbar's works and Mr. Turner's deep bass voice will all be features. Mr. Gray has been on the lyceum platform for some two or three years and is therefore no experiment."---an odd way of putting it.
