Nat-Opera. Circa 1935 48.75 x 33.75 inches. Kunstdruck Luii, Amsterdam. Condition B+: minor restored losses and overpainting in margins,. light creasing in matins and image. Very little is known about Schwarz outside of the fact that after studying in Antwerp, he went on to become a painter and graphic designer in Holland before his tragic death at Auschwitz. This poster is a splendid early opera piece. With little knowledge of the artist's ouevre, the viewer is left wondering whether the red horse is a subtle wink to the Fauvist horse that appears in Cappiello's Chocolat Klaus, and if the colors and sense of movement are related to the Blaue Reiter group active inMunich from 1911-1914 In any case, it is a very good image that evokes the spirit of this very modernistic production of the opera "Cavaleria Rusticana." Extremely rare. ref. The Modern Dutch Poster by Stephen Prokopoff, M.I.T. Press, 1987 - p. 119, no. 84
