Odol. Circa 1935 Maquette. 19.25 x 15 inches. Condition A-: pinholesaround margins; gouache on board. Odol-a company that specialized in mouth cleaning products-was famous at the beginning of the century for its daring and creative advertisements. The ads for Odol that were published in the magazine jugend were amazingly imaginative, with endorsement figures that ranged from the popular dancer Lois Fuller to the iconic Egyptian Sphinx. Advertising a type of toothpaste in this ad, Odol goes directly to the source in this image showing a smiling mouth. An excellent work of airbrush, contrasting the darkness of the background to the shining brightness of the teeth a strong testament to the strength of the product being advertised. ref. Odol, Reklame Kunst um 1900 by Henriette Vath-Hinz, Verkbund Anabas, Verlag, 1985 - archiv band 14
