PAUL COLIN (1892-1986). TWA / TRANS WORLD AIRLINE. Circa 1950. 39x24 inches, 100x61 cm. Bedos & Cie, Paris.
39 1/2x24 inches, 100 1/2x61 cm. Bedos & Cie, Paris.
Condition A-: minor abrasions at edges and in image; repaired tear at right edge.
Colin created images for the plays, balls and music halls of Paris throughout the 1920s, when his work became synonymous with the city's cultural scene at the time. This is a rare/span piece for the artist in that it is a travel poster for an American airline. Here, Colin scales back his signature Art Deco style in favor of a simpler one, showing a TWA Constellation circling the globe, half of which is covered in night's shadow. TWA's first transatlantic flight from New York to Paris on a Constellation took place on February 6, 1946. Not in Colin.
