[ Photographs ] (CARTES-DE-VISITE and CABINET CARDS) Album containing 98 cartes-de-visite and 24 cabinet cards by various photographers including Anthony 45, Brady 7, Gurney (12), Sarony (16), Warren (1 0) and others and comprising a wealth of portraits of Civil War figures, among them a reproduction of Lincoln, fine images of Gr-Ant, Gen. Winfield Scott, Hancock, Sheridan, Mcclellan, and Sherman, together with reproductions of Lee, Meade, and other Civil War officers; presidents, vice-presidents, and political notables, including Daniel Webster, Thurlow Weed, Henry Clay, William Seward, and Schuyler Colfax: literary figures, artists, actors and inventors, including a portrait of Samuel Morse by Sarony, and images of Edwin Booth, Henry Longfellow, Henry Ward Beecher, and Frederick Church: together with portraits of notable industrialists, religious figures, lawyers and more (44 of them reproductions). Albumen prints, one hand-colored, and one salt print, all but 18 with the photographer's imprint on mount recto/or verso, one Brady with the photographer's name written in the negative; mounted one to 4 per page, some with handwritten identifications, in ink, below mount, all with handwritten numbers above mount. Oblong 4to, heavily embossed leather, brass clasp lacking spine; inexpertly rehinged with tape; all edges gilt. 1850s-90s E4000-6000 The album is accompanied by a typewritten index identifying the subject of each of the photographs and its photographer. With - Group of three loose photographs comprising two cartes-de-visite, one of a Civil War soldier and another a reproduction of a general, and a view of a pond surrounded by trees. Two are albumen prints, the landscape is a printing-out paper print, 4 x 7inches. 1860s; 1930s.
