[ Photographs ] (Cased Images) African-Americans Pair of sixth-plate daguerreotypes of African-Americans, the first a portrait of a young gentleman and the second by Charles Evans, Philadelphia, of a well-dressed woman; the second with gilt highlights in the woman'sjewelry and with the photographer's imprint in the mat; both in full leather cases. Late 1840s, early-mid 1850s E1400-1800 Charles Evans was a daguerreotypist at the Sun Beam Gallery at 106 Chestnut Street, Philadelphia, in 1851 he remained active in that city but relocated his business, between 1854-1856, to 380 Market Street. he is mentioned in both the "Photographic Art Journal" and "The Photographic and Fine Art Journal" for the year 1856
