[ Photographs ] (Cased Images) San Francisco Half-plate daguerreotype of a scenic view of San Francisco, taken from Nob Hill, showing the city and harbor. 1851 E2000-3000 A rare daguerreian representation of early San Francisco in the gold rush years. This plate is almost identical to the center image in the five-part daguerreotype panorama of San Francisco in the collection of the George Eastman House, International Museum of Photography and Film. Taken from Nob Hill some time between January 19, 1851 and May 3, 1851 it shows City Hall (center left side of the image), at Keary and Pacific, which was subsequently destroyed in the fire of June 22, 1851 For details on the dating of this and the George Eastman House panorama see "Sea Letter," volume 2, nos. 2 and 3 (San Francisco Maritime Museum, October 1964
