[ Photographs ] (Native-Americans) Wanamaker Expedition Group of 32 lantern slides chronicling the Last Great Indian Council, comprising portraits, scenes of camp life, and battles, all from negatives taken on the second Wanamaker expedition to the Valley of the Little Bighorn Montana. Gelatin silver on glass positive transparencies, 3.25 x 4inches, some bound with the gilt-stamped mask of the retailers Edward Van Altena or Scott and Van Atlena, New York. 1909 E600-900 Rodman Wanamaker, heir to the Philadelphia department store fortune, financed three expeditions and chose Dr. Joseph Kossuth Dixon as the expedition leader and photographer. Several of the images in this group are reproduced in Dixon's book The Vanishing Race, (Garden City 1913)
