Richmond, whose paintings were exhibited throughout Europe, worked for the Canadian government during World War I as a battlefield artist, did a lot of graphic work for the British Railway companies in the 1920s and 30s and also produced posters for the London Underground. Tunbridge Wells, a popular spa town since the 17th century, was given the appelation "Royal" in 1909, by King Edward VII. This image shows the Pantiles, Tunbridge Wells's famous colonnaded walking street, with its elegant and stylized view of the town and her visitors.
