Printed list of slaves for sale from Johnson, Snyder and Adams, of Richmond. 8.375 x 7.125 inches, printed recto only; some chips at edges, not affecting text. Richmond, Virginia: Johnson, Snyder and Adams, 20 September 1860 E800/1,200 Printed solicitation for sale of slaves, addressed to Robert Brattia, a potential cus-tomer, listing the "stock" available from the slavers. In part: "The following is the state of our Negro Market today" (in bold italics), followed by list of 23 slaves, men, women and children, graded as to condition and ability: "Men, Extra. $1275 to 1300 Men, Common, 775 to 850 Women, Extra, 16 to 22 years of age, 1125 to 1175 ." and a long list of young boys and girls. At the foot of this extraordinary advertisement, in bold italics: "Families, Mechanics, Fancy Girls, and Scrub-Negroes, sell in their proportion to above quotations." Hand-addressed, then hand-signed at foot of page, "Johnson, Snyder and Adams." Since the form is printed and the sellers filled in by hand, it may be this was a standard form available at stationer's, or the Clerk's Office. [SEE ILLUSTRATION]
