(RAILROADS.) Kendall, N.O. Portland, Saco and Biddeford Daily Stages. Broadside, 402 x 319 mm, 2 mended tears, uneven browning, wear on upper left corner, several very small holes not substantially affecting appearance. Np, 15 August 1850

  • Notes: Schedule and rate advertisement for a stage running south from Portland, connecting with trains from the north. Illustrated with an attractive wood engraving by [Alonzo] Hartwell of a train and a stagecoach pulling into a busy station. Hartwell was a prolific Bostonian described as "the best of Abel Bowen's pupils"--Hamilton, I:139. The illustration bears an 1845 copyright statement by Boston publisher S.N. Dickinson, suggesting that the plate was reused from another broadside. This broadside is, so far as we can tell, unrecorded.
