(REAL PHOTO POSTCARDS--CALIFORNIA)
A selection of 7 real photo postcards of the exclusive campground turned gentlemen's club Bohemian Grove.
Including at least two photographs by Gabriel Moulin (1872-1945), who was the official photographer for the Bohemian Club and documented the people and performances at Bohemian Grove. The images feature compelling and detailed group shots of the attendees at a meal as well as a full orchestra, lavish theatrical productions, and an overview of the camp lake and pier with sunning guests. Silver prints on carte-postale paper, the images measuring 3¼x5 3/8 inches (8.2x13.6 cm.), and the reverse, two with a caption and the photographer Gabriel Moulin's credit and each with the printed backs of real photo postcards. 1920s

  • Condition: This diverse group of real photo postcards from California's Bohemian Grove is in overall very good to excellent condition. The surfaces of the prints are bright, clean, and neat, with lustrous tones, contrast, and fine detail.

Upon exceedingly close inspection in strong, raking light, the surfaces occasionally show exceptionally faint and unobtrusive surface imperfections, but this is not apparent when viewing the work under typical conditions. Two show very small and isolated printing inconsistencies at the extreme edges of the image area, but this too is not distacting. One with a small chip at the far lower edge, and a couple with again, quite tiny and superficial scattered chips at the corners (there are no margins), only noted for the purposes of a detailed report.

A couple of the backs have warmed slightly, and one has a penciled notation, but overall they are clean and bright.

Overall an interesting and visually compelling group from this exclusive campground gentlemen's club.
