(RECONSTRUCTION.) The Ten White Men and Two Negroes who Defrauded the American People out of their choice for President in 1876. Hand-colored lithographed poster, 20 x 28 inches; very small diagonal chips at two corners in blank margins; ink stain on left side affecting some words, but still readable. New York: Advance Publishing Company, 1884 E600/800 Important political poster regarding 1876 presidential elections. That there were "irregularities" is indisputable. Both parties claimed Louisiana, South Carolina, and Florida; both charged fraud in vote counting. Republicans claimed many col-ored voters of those States were deprived of their vote by "intimidation or actual force," but the real culprit was the Electoral College. In conference, Hayes was declared the winner by one electoral vote, though it is now conceded Tilden carried Louisiana. The poster lists a litany of so-called Republican crimes. It was gener-ated by the Democratic party raking up the 1876 election to swing the colored vote in 1884. [SEE ILLUSTRATION].
