(REVOLUTION.) Wesley, John. A Calm Address to Our American Colonies.

(REVOLUTION.) Wesley, John. A Calm Address to Our American Colonies. 23 pages. 12mo, later 1/2 morocco, worn; title page soiled, small tear to title without loss, a few repaired tears to the preliminary leaves with some resulting staining; small library stamp on verso of the title. London: R. Hawes, [1775]

Written by the famous Methodist leader, this pamphlet argued for the legitimacy of taxing the colonies and engendered numerous pro-American responses in London. When copies arrived in America it is said to have been suppressed for fear of Methodist persecution. Adams, Controversy 75-115d; Howes W623.
