IMPATIENT WITH WOODROW WILSON'S VIEWS ROOSEVELT, THEODORE. Typed Letter Signed, as President, with 7-line Autograph Postscript, to Outlook editor Lyman Abbott, thanking him for seeing Richards, praising his suggestion, agreeing to write an article for the Outlook based upon his considerations, praising a quote by Woodrow Wilson but expressing impatience with his views concerning the control of corporations, noting that Congress saw the federal government as powerless in circumstances similar to that mentioned by his brother-in-law but promising to investigate whether he had the power to act. 2 pages, small 4to, White House stationery, written on the first and terminal pages of a single folded sheet. Oyster Bay, 29 August 1908

  • Notes: ". . . I will gladly write an article for the Outlook based exactly on the considerations you mention . . . .
"That is a great quotation from Woodrow Wilson. I have not read the book, because I have felt rather impatient with his recent attitude on certain matters, notably the effort to control corporations; . . ."
The postscript: "Who is William Garrott Brown? Somebody has sent me a piece of his in the Evening Post which is a really scandalous perversion of the truth."
William Garrott Brown (1868-1913) was a historian who frequently wrote about the American South.
