SAUL STEINBERG (1914-1999) THE WALTZ OF TOREADORS.

55 1/2x40 inches.
Condition B+: repaired tears in margins; cracking and restoration along vertical and horizontal folds.
Born in Budapest, Steinberg emigrated to the United States in 1941. An outstanding draughtsman, he humorously criticized American lifestyle in the New Yorker and in his numerous albums. He is perhaps most famous for his New Yorker cover turned best-selling poster "A New Yorker's View of the World". On the other hand, this theatrical poster for a play by French author Jean Anouilh is rather uncommon. The style that influenced a whole generation of artists including Andre Francois, Savignac and Edelmann, is immediately recognizable here.
