  • Condition: This album with 48 images by Scottish photographers James Valentine (1815-79) and George Washington Wilson (1823-93), circa 1880s, is in excellent condition. The prints are rich and strong, with clear contrast, dimension, and plenty of detail throughout.

The surfaces of the prints are clean and bright, but show faint scattered imperfections associated with the thin albumen paper, including very soft handling marks and a couple areas of period retouching These are not distracting, and do not detract from the overall quality of the images' fine depiction of landscape, local figures, and architecture.

The prints are mounted recto/verso and the presentation is also clean and neat. The Oblong folio album is worn, with shelf wear and the spine missing.
