Notes: inscribed and signed with a self-portrait to artist adolf dehn: "To Adolf, the great Dehn and for Virginia, the greatest Dehn with love and affection from Fred Shane." Shane studied with Randall Davey and John Sloan in Santa Fe, and at the Broadmoor Art Academy in Colorado Springs in the 1920s, was a close friend of Thomas Hart Benton, and worked on the Public Works of Art Project in Missouri in the 1930s.
