- Notes: number 289 of the first trade edition of his last work. inscribed in calligraphic style to maurice raynal and initialled g. a.: "Fume longtemps ô Maurice, mon souvenir et ces poëmes dans ta longue." Apollinaire died in Paris on November 9 in the great influenza pandemic of 1918. The typographically experimental Calligrammes, his record of his war experiences in concrete poetry, was published a few months before his death on April 15.
