Small Manuscript Slave Document, recording the sale of a negro girl, Lydia, in consideration of 40 pounds. 1 page, 8vo. Np, 4 October 1792 "Received Octr. 4th, 1792 of Mr David Nevin the sum of forty pounds current money, being for a negro girl name Lydia, which said negro girl I hereby sell and defend as my property, to the said David Nevin -- given under my hand...John Thomas." Together with a receipt for a subscription to a newspaper and for the placing of an advertisement for "black girl last winter" (probably referring to an ad offering to purchase a slave); dated 31 May 1818. 1 page, 8vo.
